The Housing Authority of the County of Montezuma is located in the heart of beautiful Cortez, Colorado. Our jurisdiction includes the following areas.

The Housing Authority of the County of Montezuma (HA) administers three (3) rental assistance programs. The Low Rent Public Housing Program, Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) Program and Affordable Tax Credit Units based on Federally established income limits. The Housing Choice Voucher Program and Public Housing Programs are funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

ELIBIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants for the Housing Choice Voucher Program and Public Housing Programs must meet the Very Low Income guidelines (earning no more than 50% of the area median income) established by HUD. Rental Assistance is available to families, single individuals, elderly, disabled and handicapped.
Applicants must:
- Submit to criminal background/credit check for everyone over the age of 18
- Turn in birth certificates, social security cards for ALL individuals on the application
- Provide valid Driver's License/Id for anyone over the age of 18

Public Housing developments are owned and managed by the Housing Authority. These developments are multi-family and single-family dwellings scattered in various sites throughout Montezuma County, Colorado. This is primarily due to the County passing a resolution to develop public housing in scattered sites within its jurisdiction. The Program has separate dwelling units for the elderly, disabled, and families with children.
Applicants are placed according to wait list and availability. Families will pay 30% of their adjusted monthly income towards their rent. They must also go through criminal background/credit check to qualify.
AFFORDABLE HOUSING (TAX CREDIT PROGRAM)
Affordable housing is for working families and single individuals who must qualify for this program. Income qualifications are 30% to 60% of the Median Income, call or stop by to pick up an application and to see if you qualify.

Menefee Apartments are located in Mancos, Colorado and are subsidized elder, handicap, disabled apartments provided by USDA/Rural Developement, Managed by the Housing Authority of the County of Montezuma.

This program was created in 1974 to assist low-income families. The Housing Authority provides rental assistance to families who wish to reside in the private rental market. Program participants pay 30% of their monthly adjusted income towards the rental amount of the dwelling unit.
Participants have the choice of housing they wish to reside in. Housing types may include:
