Montezuma County Housing Authority is located in
the heart of beautiful Cortez, Colorado.
Our jurisdiction includes the following areas:
The Housing Authority of the County of
Montezuma (HA) administers Three (3) rental assistance programs.
The Low Rent Public Housing Program, Housing Choice Voucher Program
and Affordable Tax Credit Units based on Federally established
income limits. These programs are funded by the U.S.
Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Public Housing developments are owned and
managed by the Housing Authority. These developments are
multi-family and single-family dwellings scattered in various sites
throughout the county. This is primarily due to the County
passing a resolution to develop public housing in scattered sites
within its jurisdiction. The Program has separate dwelling
units for the elderly, disabled, and families with children.

Department of Agriculture policy, this institution is prohibited

FAMILY ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
Families must meet the following criteria to
be eligible for assistance:
Public Housing: Applicants must
meet the Very Low Income guidelines (earning no more than 50% of the
area median income) established by HUD. Rental Assistance is
available to families, elderly, disabled and handicapped.
Applicants must meet screening criteria for the following
conditions:
HOUSING CHOICE VOUCHER PROGRAM:
This program was created in 1974 to assist
low-income families. The Housing Authority provides rental
assistance to families who wish to reside in the private rental
market. Program participants pay 30% of their monthly adjusted
income towards the rental amount of the dwelling unit.
Participants have the choice of housing they
wish to reside in. Housing types may be:

Single Family Homes
-
Manufactured Housing
-
Apartments / Townhomes
Applicants must
meet the Very Low Income guidelines (earning no more than 50% of the
area median income) established by HUD. Individuals on the
program will also have a credit and criminal background
check.
ALL programs work from a wait list; which goes
by the date and time your application was turned in complete to our
office.
